The world is changing rapidly, so our democratic systems need to evolve to stay relevant. Democratic renewal is about reimagining how power is shared, how voices are heard, and how decisions are made.
Dem36 is on a 10-year mission to renew South Australian democracy. Our goal is to work with the South Australian community to develop a Charter for Democratic Renewal, setting out South Australians' ideas (or demands!) for improving the way we do democracy in our state. Using the Charter, the Dem36 team will advocate for tangible reforms to our democratic systems—in particular, to inform and build momentum for a new state constitution in time for our state's bicentenary in 2036.
We have released a discussion paper, Towards a Charter for Democratic Renewal, to guide conversations around innovative and forward-looking reforms that strengthen people’s voices, ensure fairness, and protect our democratic way of life. We will be engaging widely with South Australians to gather ideas and build momentum for change. Be prepared for big questions and wide-ranging discussions; this is a time to be bold, inquisitive, creative, and positive!
